5th April 1957
Kerala ushered into power the first democratically elected communist government in the world. Headed by the redoubtable E.M.S. Namboodiripad, it served only 28 months of its 60 month mandate and on July 31, 1959 was dismissed by the President of India invoking Article 356 on the recommendation of the governor of Kerala

ReplyDeleteIn spite of being bundled out of power, the 28 months of the first communist government had a salutary effect on Kerala because it taught Malayalees that in a capitalist society man exploits man, while in a communist one it's the other way around, That is the only possible explanation for Kerala voting the Congress in, in one election and the Communists in the next
